Bupa Health Services has been awarded the contract by the Department of Veterans’ Affairs to deliver evidence based clinical health advice and education to the Department, in order to support veterans and their families to gain access to health benefits and treatment within the Department of Veterans’ Affairs (DVA) framework. Bupa commenced delivery of this service on 1 April 2021.

Bupa Health Services has a full-time or part-time role for a Medical Adviser- Compensation to work at the DVA office in Sydney CBD.

This is a 22.5 - 37.5 hours a week role with no patient contact. 

To be successful for consideration for this Medical Adviser- Compensation role you will need to meet the following criteria;

  • Be an Australian Citizen
  • Unrestricted registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) as a Doctor
  • FACRRM, FARGP, FRACGP, FAFOEM, FRACP is desirable
  • Experience in Military, or Occupational and Environmental Medicine is highly desirable
  • A minimum of 5 years medical experience post internship
  • Have the ability to obtain a baseline security clearance
  • Successful completion of a criminal history check

The role

The Compensation section investigates, assesses and determines claims in relation to liability, impairment, incapacity, and income support for veterans and reservists.  

The Medical Adviser – Compensation role provides medical advice in relation to claims across the range of legislative instruments, and participates in education, clinical governance and continuous improvement activities.

You will possess strong critical analysis skills, and excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with both clinical and non – clinical professionals.

You will be able to demonstrate sensitivity and judgement in dealing with veteran related issues and be able to work both independently and collaboratively as a productive team member. The role will require you to respond to queries from DVA staff regarding medical information and provide advice to DVA policy areas on medical matters as required.
