THE ORGANISATION:
NT PHN are partnering with Central Australian Aboriginal Congress (Congress) to find a General Practitioner to join their dedicated team.
Congress is an Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Service providing comprehensive primary health care services to Aboriginal people in Alice Springs and across five remote Aboriginal communities in Central Australia. Congress works in partnership with the local Mpwelarre Health Service board to deliver primary health care to the Santa Teresa community.
THE ROLE:
The successful General Practitioner will work with a team of dedicated Nurses, Aboriginal Health Practitioners, Allied Health professionals and visiting medical specialists to provide health care to the Aboriginal people of Central Australia at a number of locations.
The role provides the clinical leadership to the Mpwelarre Clinic and collaborates with all Congress services, visiting Allied Health Professionals and other specialist services. This position is based in Santa Teresa, which is approximately an hour's drive south east of Alice Springs. The population of Santa Teresa is estimated at 643 but fluctuates depending on seasonal, social and cultural events. Temperatures can range from between 0 to above 40 degrees due to the semi-arid climate. There is a community store for fresh fruit and vegetables and a cafe and banking facilities close by.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Undertake comprehensive primary health care clinical consultations in a holistic manner
- Work in a cooperative manner with clients, being aware of their cultural beliefs
- Work in a cooperative manner with clients taking into consideration their cultural practices and beliefs, especially in relation to health, well-being and Western Medicine
- Participate in continuous quality improvement
- Work collaboratively with a multi-disciplinary team and support a service based work culture
- Take reasonable care for your own health and safety and for the health and safety of others
- Apply strict confidentially practices and guidelines to all patient and clients with sensitive information
ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:
To be considered for this opportunity, you must meet the below essential criteria:
Only applicants with full working rights within Australia will be considered (Australian Citizen or Permanent Residents)
- Current CV and contact details for two referees
- Current registration with the Medical Board of Australia (AHPRA)
- Fellow of the RACGP or ACRRM or a minimum of five years experience in General Practice
- Good communication skills, especially in a cross-cultural environment
- Willingness and ability to accommodate Aboriginal values and traditions in clinical practice
- Ability to work well under pressure and work effectively in a multidisciplinary primary health care team
- Willingness, ability and appropriate levels of health and fitness to travel to and from work from remote locations
DESIRED CRITERIA:
- Awareness of primary health care practices and principles
- Additional qualifications which may include DipRANZCOG, FARGP or MPH
