An excellent opportunity exists for a motivated and friendly Doctor (or Doctors) with general or specialist AHPRA registration to join our busy practice in a full-time or part-time capacity and become part of the Penola community.

Penola is located within South Australia’s world-famous Coonawarra wine region and is a town steeped in history, with a friendly and vibrant community and plenty to see and do. Penola is just a short drive away from the beautiful coastal towns and beaches of the Limestone Coast and the World Heritage Listed Naracoorte Caves. It is only a 30-minute drive from Mount Gambier, South Australia’s second largest city and major tourist destination. Mount Gambier offers an abundance of shops, eateries, nightlife and all the other amenities that you would expect from such a populous city and is the home of the famous ‘Blue Lake’. REX airline run several flights daily from Mount Gambier to both Adelaide and Melbourne which take just one hour.

Penola has a kindergarten, public and private primary schools and secondary school and there are many other schooling options, both public and private in nearby Mount Gambier.

Penola Doctors is located within a DWS & RRMA 5 location, entitling the successful applicant to the GP Rural Incentive payment, up to $69,000 over 5 years ($23,000 per annum thereafter), plus the Rural Procedural Grants Program.

The Practice

Penola Doctors is a well-established and popular Doctor-owned practice with a loyal following of patients, located on the main street of Penola and adjacent to the Penola War Memorial Hospital, Pinchunga aged-care facility and Allied Health services. Our GP’s share in a roster providing daily emergency on-call support and aged-care visits.

We are mixed-billing, fully-computerised and accredited to RACGP standards. We have on-site Pathology collection and a full range of allied health and specialist services nearby.

Penola Doctors employs experienced practice nurses and support staff who provide confident and effective support to our GP’s and create a warm and welcoming environment for our patients. We pride ourselves on our happy team environment and our positive and constructive relationships with the local hospital, pharmacy and other healthcare services.

The Position

We are seeking one full-time or two part-time GP’s to join our team who have a view to long-term employment and are dedicated to providing high quality healthcare and building excellent relationships with local patients. GP’s with special interests are encouraged to apply, as we strongly support increasing healthcare services to the local community.

While VR GP’s are preferred, we are also open discussing opportunities with overseas trained Doctors with at least General Registration who are completing their moratorium. The successful applicant will have recent emergency skills experience to share in the hospital on-call roster, excellent computer skills for the paperless practice and be a team-player to meet accreditation standards.

The position also requires a willingness to work from 8am or to 6pm weekdays and some weekends, balanced with time off to enjoy life. Flexibility and accommodation assistance for the right candidate/s can be discussed.

The Penola War Memorial hospital has been equipped with video conferencing technology referred to as “SAVES” (South Australian Virtual Emergency Service). SAVES provides the emergency department with virtual GP consults for triage category 3-5 presentations from 11pm-7am daily, supporting our on-call GP’s to rest at night. SAVES is utilised only at the discretion of the on-call GP.

Remuneration

Excellent remuneration on offer. A combination of fixed rate and percentage of billings based on skills and experience.
