Sunrise Health Service Aboriginal Corporation (SHS) is a Community Controlled Health Organisation that provides services to nine individual remote communities in the eastern Katherine region.

The Sunrise approach involves community people taking part in controlling their own health. Everything from financial management and governance, staff selection and service delivery priorities are directed by the organisation's Aboriginal Board and Community Health Committees.

Sunrise Health Service Aboriginal Corporation works in partnership with Northern Territory PHN (NT PHN), who provide support services to health professionals and organisations across the Northern Territory. 

About the Opportunity

Sunrise Health Service Aboriginal Corporation is now seeking two General Practitioners to join their dedicated team in the Katherine Region of the Northern Territory.

These roles are being offered on a permanent full-time basis, however shared job arrangements (such as 2 months on, 2 months off) would be considered. We also require a GP from early May to early September 2019 each year.

Working as part of a multi-disciplinary team, led by the Director of Public Health and Planning, this position is responsible for providing direct primary healthcare services, support for and sharing of skills with other health centre staff, and participating in key primary healthcare initiatives and community consultation

You will work across a number of the nine communities that Sunrise services, primarily carrying out clinic-based work. The extended team you'll work with on a day to day basis includes a range of Allied Health Professionals who provide both clinical and health promotional activities.

There is also opportunity to become a GP supervisor, providing mentorship and support to GP registrars, if this should be of interest.

To be considered, you must have the following:

  • Registration as a Vocationally Registered General Practitioner with AHPRA;
  • Broad based experience in primary healthcare appropriate to working in a rural/remote location;
  • Experience working within an Aboriginal health, or cross-cultural setting; and
  • An understanding and commitment to the principles of Aboriginal Community Control in primary healthcare delivery.

Importantly, SHS is looking for flexible individuals who are able to adapt their care to meet the specific needs of each patient, while maintaining organisational guidelines.
