About Gidgee Healing
Gidgee Healing (Gidgee) is an Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Service with a commitment to providing holistic and culturally appropriate health services, underpinned by a philosophy of community participation, and a strong focus on care coordination.
Gidgee is the only Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Service representing the health needs of the Aboriginal people residing in the Mount Isa, North West and Lower Gulf regions of Queensland. The organisation's service footprint is the largest Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Service provider land area in Queensland. It includes two Hospital and Health Service regions (Central West and North West) and shares its boundary with the Western Queensland Primary Health Network (WQPHN).
The organisation is currently experiencing a period of very strong organisational growth, expanding the scope and frequency of the services it provides across the Mount Isa and Lower Gulf regions. A significant proportion of the Primary Health Care and Maternal and Child Health Services historically provided by mainstream providers across the region are now transitioning to a community-controlled model of care to be delivered by Gidgee Healing.
About the Opportunity
Due to continued organisational growth, Gidgee Healing now has multiple opportunities for VR General Practitioners to join their team in Lower Gulf Queensland.
Flexible working arrangements are on offer, including full-time, part-time, locum and FIFO options, as well as the ability to be based at one location or to rotate across multiple Gidgee clinics.
These positions provide clinical leadership across the spectrum of the organisation’s clinical services, as well as providing direct GP services to a growing client group.
Key responsibilities also include:
- Clinical Governance – overseeing and driving continuous improvement of high quality service delivery models
- Service Development – providing high level advice to support organisational growth and the development of Gidgee’s medical workforce, including supervision and support for GP Registrars and Medical students
- Medicare Income – assisting in the generation of further Medicare billings while implementing systematic quality care
This is a fantastic opportunity to join an Aboriginal Medical Service (AMS) and work within Aboriginal Health, without the difficulties that can come from a typical AMS role. These positions only operate within normal clinic hours (no emergency, after hours or on call work). Participation in a rotating Saturday roster (typically once a month) is required, working 4 hours in the morning at a rate of 50% of Medicare billings.
About the Benefits
Whether you're looking for a new career challenge or a new adventure, this is an incredible opportunity to work within remote Aboriginal Health without living remotely. You'll have the best of both worlds, living in a location within reasonable distance from main cities while offering an array of outdoor adventures at your finger tips (think great fishing, boating and 4WDing!).
In return for your hard work and dedication, you'll be rewarded with a highly competitive base salary circa $300,000 PLUS a percentage of Medicare billings, accommodation, vehicle and 2 return flights per year to Brisbane or Townsville.
With a focus on supporting and encouraging the development of their staff, Gidgee offers professional development leave and allowances in addition to a comprehensive induction upon commencing with the organisation. Gidgee also has close links with JCU, opening up exciting opportunities in the area of research if that's something you're interested in exploring!
Not to mention, you'll be joining the organisation during an exciting period of ongoing growth (Gidgee has tripled in size over the last 18 months), providing you with the opportunity to help set the direction of the clinics into the future!
